ASLEEP BUT LIVING

Those are the words that came into my mind.
And I started asking myself…
What does that actually mean?
Because sometimes, I think we can be completely awake physically…
…and yet asleep to our own lives.
And that took me straight back to the Medicine Wheel.
Back to the place where, for me, awakening really began.
If you’ve followed any of my previous videos, you’ll know that I see the Medicine Wheel as a journey.
A journey through life.
And often, awakening begins in the East.
The East represents new beginnings.
Rebirth.
Spring.
The sunrise.
That moment when something inside you begins to stir…
…and you realise that perhaps the life you’ve been living isn’t the whole story.
But here’s the interesting part.
As adults, many of us find ourselves sitting comfortably in the North of the wheel.
We’ve gained experience.
We’ve learned.
We’ve built careers.
We’ve created relationships.
We’ve chased success.
We’ve accumulated possessions.
And we’ve become very good at living life.
But are we actually awake while we’re doing it?
Or are we simply going through the motions?
Getting up.
Going to work.
Paying the bills.
Buying the things we think will make us happy.
Chasing the next achievement.
The next car.
The next house.
The next holiday.
The next amount of money in the bank.
And there’s absolutely nothing wrong with creating abundance.
I’m not knocking that at all.
In fact, I believe abundance is part of life.
But there has to be balance.
Because sometimes, without even realising it, we become so caught up in creating the life that our mind thinks we should have…
…that we completely miss the bigger picture.
And that’s what I’m pointing to when I say:
Asleep but living.

Because what if there’s more to you than the person you see in the mirror?
What if the job title isn’t you?
What if the bank balance isn’t you?
What if the house, the car, the possessions and even the identity you’ve created…
aren’t actually who you are?
So let me ask you something.
And don’t answer too quickly.
Just sit with it.
Who are you?
Where did you come from?
And where are you going?
Three incredibly simple questions…
…but perhaps some of the biggest questions we can ever ask ourselves.
And I don’t think there’s one answer that somebody can simply give you.
You have to explore them for yourself.
Read.
Listen.
Question.
Ponder.
Go down a few rabbit holes.
And most importantly…
feel your way through it.

Here’s something I’d like you to try.
For the next few days, just take five minutes.
That’s all.
Five minutes where you put the phone down.
Turn the television off.
Stop thinking about what you need to do next.
And just sit.
Then ask yourself:
Who am I?
Who is looking back at me when I look in the mirror?
Who is actually in there?
Who’s experiencing this life?
Who’s watching the thoughts?
Who’s having the thoughts?
And perhaps most importantly…
If I can observe my thoughts…
then who is the one observing them?
Just sit with that.
Don’t rush to find an answer.
Let the question do the work.

Many years ago, I read a book called The Surrender Experiment by Michael A. Singer.
That book opened up a completely different way of thinking for me.
It sent me down so many rabbit holes.
And once I started exploring, I became like a sponge.
I wanted to understand more.
Who are we?
Why are we here?
What is consciousness?
What is this experience we call life?
And even now, I’m still learning.
I’m still reading.
Still questioning.
Still exploring.
Because I don’t think awakening is something you suddenly achieve and then tick off your list.
I think it’s a journey.
And perhaps that’s the whole point.

So maybe this is my invitation to you.
Maybe I’ve stirred something up inside you.
Maybe you’ve started questioning things you never questioned before.
And if I have…
then perhaps that’s a good thing.
Because sometimes awakening doesn’t mean finding all the answers.
Sometimes…
it simply means becoming curious enough to start asking better questions.
And perhaps it’s time to move.
To step away from simply living on autopilot…
…and take a journey back towards the East.
Back towards curiosity.
Back towards new beginnings.
Back towards that part of yourself that wants to explore…
who you really are.
So…
are you asleep but living?
Or are you beginning to wake up?
Only you can answer that.
Wishing you an amazing journey.
